Now I've seen everything...
What is going on with our country? First, Obama is elected President and now founding Pirate members think that owning a cyclecross/touring/road bike makes it OK to wear spandex. God help us all!
during hard core road rides... or races... I can see it... but during touring events... or mountain bike events... I just can't understand it... maybe it is just the fat guy in me that is bucking the spandex... maybe I'm too old school... anyone have an opinion...?
RE: Truth #2 You can still cover the lycra with something decent. Riding a road bike doesn't make it OK to wear spandex with no cover... gross! That goes for you too Lantern.
Good Job in the ride Chino...congrats on the distance...next time put on some shorts before you take those pics! :)

The extra shorts material constantly bunches up and is more than just annoying. There's a reason that I was one of the very few people wearing over shorts on day one. I figured if the other 330 people were wearing the lycra, it might actually be for a reason.
What WASN'T cool, was that Dave's bib-lycras were WAY too tight, so much that the material was stretched so thin that you could see his ass skin..and subsequently, the crack of said ass. He was rebuked throughout the day for that infraction.
Funny thing was, Ray kept riding behind me. Was it because it was such a heavenly sight? (I think so!) I have to say, Chino pulled off the "smuggling plums" bit quite well.
Carbon Fiber is lighter, stronger, more expensive, and has a higher failure rate than the typical metals used in bicycle components. If and when I win the lottery... I will have a myriad of full carbon bikes... until that time... I'll stick with what I feel will last the longest... #1. steel... #2. aluminum... allow me to quote the June 2009 Issue of Bicycle Magazine which on pg 50 states in regards to Carbon Components... "DON'T TAKE A TINY CRACK IN YOUR BAR LIGHTLY. IT WILL GROW AND COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO DISASTROUS FAILURE". I've never heard a statement like that about steel or aluminium. However... I commend your attempt at deflecting my commentary about your totally gross man pants.
Have you forgotten Josh about all the Aluminum frames that we have broken? I see more aluminum parts from frames brake come through the shop than i do carbon frames, or carbon components.

I LOVE to Wear Spandex when I don't ride my bike!
You're all just jealous because I make these look GOOOOOD!
...of course, Josh is also afraid to have an ounce of carbon fiber with 4 feet of his bike.
Here's a couple of truths mate:
1. Carbon fiber is really strong shit and it's okay, you can use some. Maybe get some carbon headset spacers just to try it out, you know, baby steps.
2. Spending any lengh of time with your ass constantly in the saddle is better spent using just Lycra. It's just a fact.

oh yeah, crack in carbon, get rid of it, listen to josh about that one.
Though, there are vastly more aluminum frames out there, so that could account for the greater numbers seen in the shop.
If the carbon cracks, can't you just supper-glue it?
Could a "disastrous failure" be defined as scatological discharge after crashing so hard in a section of the desert?
