interesting fact about Ray, Diana, & Athena's ride... it was soo cold out that Ray told me that he actually had to take out the batteries of his camera and warm them against his skin before the camera would power on... you think it is cold riding at 35 degrees in Tucson... think again...

I remember dreading 24HIOP night laps when the temps dipped to the low 40's. Mt. Biking is a different animal when it's 12F. Your fat finger gloves make it hard to shift, your suspension acts a lot differently, soft ground is frozen solid. One benefit is that instead of splashing through a cold stream at 35F, it's frozen solid and you dont' get wet.

Interesting Chemistry you may or may not know... Damn you guys are crazy for living in temps where normal Batteries wont even fricken work!

FYI:

The electric current generated by a battery is produced when a connection is made between its positive and negative terminals. When the terminals are connected, a chemical reaction is initiated that generates electrons to supply the current of the battery. Lowering the temperature causes chemical reactions to proceed more slowly, so if a battery is used at a low temperature then less current is produced than at a higher temperature. As the batteries run down they quickly reach the point where they cannot deliver enough current to keep up with the demand. If the battery is warmed up again it will operate normally.

Yup, we (josh and I) actually learned that in Air Force survival school. This was the first time I ever got a chance see it first hand.

Went riding again today...18F 19mph wind. There were no hikers! Trail all to myself.

Serenity now!
