After everything, UPS is denying the insurance claim for Derek's bike, saying it didn't have adequate packaging to protect it from damage during shipping.
If you have to ship anything of value, use some one else, the Post Office, Fed-EX, DHL... anything but UPS, because of policies you can't even be involved with filing a claim if your package is damaged, the "shipper" has to, and even if you brought the box in, the location you ship it from (the store etc) they are the shipper. Based on that alone, really it is a win/win for the store and UPS. UPS states they will only deal with the "Shipper" and the store states UPS is denying the claim and you have no rights to see any paperwork showing anything from UPS, they will only send things to the store/shipper. It is a vicious cycle that keeps you helpless.
This might be a case for small claims court.

mmmmm..lawsuit.
I guess we now know exactly what Brown can do for you.
it's not going to be any easier with any other carrier, fed ex or DHL for sure.
They all have issues, but as far as we can tell from google and web info, UPS is the worst. And their policy that is to only deal with the shipper really gives them a buffer from dealing with the person with the damaged package.
